When will the first Pelican arrive at the weir this year?

As the owners of The Dresser Fashions For Men Dennis, myself and our associate Darcy are looking forward to spring.  The question is ‘when is it appropriate to really start pulling out spring clothes?’.  Let’s take into consideration that we live in Saskatoon, Canada.  Although spring arrives March 21st we truly start to see consistent weather in the third week in April and following into May.  This is a great time to have in your closet what we call transition garments.

If wearing suits is a part of your work week introduce a lighter tie and pocket scarf that matches one of the spring flowers such as orange, blue and yellow as this ads bit of freshness and pop at the office.  This is also an opportunity to wear a light gage sweater that can be easily paired with a finished T shirt under your suit which takes away some of the formality.  Having a wide range of colors, for your shirts, ties and sweaters, such as blue, pink, grey etc. is another way of adding some freshness to your suits.

BRAINFREEZE SUCCESS
The second annual BRAINSPORT BRAINFREEZE was another success. What a beautiful day for running. Thanks to Dave Stark for sending the following link to some pictures he took at the start http://picasaweb.google.com/endodave95/2010Brainfreeze#slideshow/5445979310023958450 . Results Canada once again handled the timing and results are available at http://www.resultscanada.com/results.html . Mark Boyd who handles the timing also took a ton of pictures and sent us this temporary link to them so check them out soon. http://www.resultscanada.com/resultscanada/temp_pics/BrainFreeze2010.zip

They come back every year and they are Saskatoon's biggest sign of Spring. We enjoy watching them all summer long at the weir  and other local lakes . This year Saskatoon.com is celebrating their arrival. We are having the "Pelican Predict Contest" All you need do is predict the right day or be the closest day to their arrival and you win!

The winning entreat will have be the one picked that predicted the right day in their blog entry

We were recently invited to attend a lecture on finances.  One would expect the attention an individual pays to their finances would reflect the mode of dress.  But before we go too far with this let us first say, out of the 1200 guests the cross section from young to old the youth in the room put more effort into their presentation.  We saw a number of people in suits and those sporting a casual jacket, either with jeans or a trouser.  We support the effort and for those who remained with their winter jackets and put no effort at all we shake our finger.  The information about finances and how to invest is done with a great deal of expertise and the involvement of the investor to execute and to master their information can only be delivered by a well executed and sharply dressed individual.  If one was sitting in the privacy of their own living room I would expect to see everything from sweat pants to work wear.  Whether given the ticket on a complimentary basis or you paid, please gentleman let’s put more effort into not only how we represent ourselves but how we represent the city.  As we have been told the recession has not hit our province, the dynamics and our will to succeed and survive sets us apart not only within Canada but in North America.  We are fortunate to have the resources and the fortitude to keep ourselves growing competitively.  As we invite the outside world in let us show them competitively, intellectually and also socially that we are leaders.  When dressing for an event such as the one we attended having a number of casual jackets in your closet enables you to pick up your game.  Paired with trousers or jeans and a nice casual shoe that is polished, the look sets a statement.  Both of our fathers are working class men who did not wear casual jackets or suits during the day, although Rodger’s father is deceased come Sunday or such as a special event Rodger’s father put on a crisp clean white shirt, trouser and tie.  This shows that you can participate in both worlds.  As we leave you with these thoughts until next week remember to think ahead and be prepared.  Not only for that rainy day for when you need a few extra dollars in your pocket but you never know when you are going to meet that special someone and you want to have your game face on.  Just a little reminder please don’t dry your white shirts in the dryer, let them hang to dry and press accordingly.

OH CANADA!
Well done Vancouver, Canada, all the athletes, organizers, and volunteers on an excellent performance. Due to a flight delay last Friday night we spent a few hours people watching in the Calgary airport. I was impressed at how many people were wearing clothing indicating their support of their country. I think the Olympics really did bring out our Canadian pride. This Sunday is the 2nd Annual BRAINSPORT BRAINFREEZE and the weather forecast is looking good. Race Director Matt Mazurik wants you to know that you can register right up until Saturday at the Race Package pick up which is held at BRAINSPORT from 2PM to 6PM. As mentioned in previous TIMES this event is organized by U of S Huskie Cross Country athletes to raise funds for their training. If you aren’t running or volunteering maybe come out for some fun in the sun and cheer people on. Looks to be a beautiful day. In other Huskie News, the U of S Huskie Women’s track and field team captured their second straight CanWest track title on the weekend. Way to go ladies.

As my wife and I watched Joannie Rochette finish her skating program last night I couldn't believe how focused she was. It wasn't a totally clean program, she didn't fall, but what an amazing performance. To even compete showed what type of person her mother and father raised and from my point of view, they did a hell of a job. She loses her mother and 3 days later is not only competing but finished in 3rd after the short progam. In my mind I thought maybe the pressure of that might get to her but she showed up again last night and showed her true canadian heart by putting together an amazing performance once again and was rewarded with a bronze medal and more important, the admiration of an entire country. I've always said the Olympics are a wonderful platform to teach our kids terrific life lessons and show them that anything is possible. Dreams can come true if you work hard enough. It doesn't always have to be about winning a medal. I think Canadians would have still been proud of Rochette if she'd finished in 10th or 4th. Just showing up to the event really showed what she's made of. That's the life lesson I'll pass on to my daughter. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and it will test your will and character. To quote Martin Luther King Jr.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. "

In this case it's a women but it still applies. I'd say Ms. Rochette passed that test with flying colours and I am sure her mother is very proud of her, where ever she is.

Have a good day.

Go Canada Go !!

Well, I guess the Canadian Men's Hockey team showed me, didn't they ? What an absolute beating that Canada gave Russia last night. Right from the start Canada was hitting everything that had red and blue on and finished their chances.

After last night maybe I should pick slovakia to win tomorrow ? ;) No, I won't do that. If Canada plays like that for the next 2 games, we'll finish these Olympics with our final Gold Medal. But now the 3 remaining teams (Slovakia, Fins and the USA) are going to try and figure out a game plan for Canada. Mike Babcock is a really good coach and I know he's going to have a good game plan for the Slovakians tomorrow night. He'll need to get some traffic in front of Halak, something they did very well against the Russians. Nabokov is still looking for Dan Boyle's point shot! They also need to be quick and not let Chara kill them along the boards. If they get on them early, they should get stronger as the game goes on. A quick start is also a key.

Did you watch the Women's 2-man (??) Bobsleigh last night ? Fantastic. Gold and Silver. Excellent. I got to watch with my 9 year old daughter. Always special when we can watch a canadian win a gold medal.

I also got to see the replay of the 3000m relay where South Korea was DQ'd from winning a gold medal because of a lane violation. Crazy. You kind of knew something was going on when it took so long for the official results to be posted. That South Korean coach was NOT happy at all. I sure think that the Chinese and South Korean teams get away with a lot of pushing and grabbing that other teams don't. But I am not an expert in Short Track Speed Skating.

Today the 2 Canadian Curling teams have semi-final matchups. Kevin Martin plays Sweden and Cheryl Bernard plays Switzerland. I think a loss by either team would be a real disappointment especially after Kevin Martin won Silver in Turin.

That's pretty much it for this morning.

I hope you are enjoying these Olympics.  They won't be on for much longer if you aren't.

At The Dresser Fashions For Men, we look forward to the changing of the seasons.  For our industry we are a half a year ahead in order to keep current with the subtle details that occur in men’s fashions.  Both Dennis and Rodger are preparing and finalizing details for our trip to Italy to once again pick product for those of you who live in the city of Saskatoon and for those travelers who visit our gracious hotels.  Although they do business here several have taken advantage of the quality product that we have in our store.

This spring our collection of suits and casual jackets by Paolo Lastrucci are dynamic and although it is hard to believe each collection only trumps the past.  This leaves us with the remainder of our collection in stock as well as other furnishings such as shirts, shoes, and sweaters.  Although we had a successful sale that we hosted in thanking our clients for support we would like to extend our sale prices. This is for those of you to take advantage of some great prices to help build a wardrobe and for those of you who are seasoned shoppers to take advantage of putting another choice into your closet.  Whether it is something to wear to the office or simply out to play.  We have two hot items that translate from fall to spring very easily.  The first is our Lastrucci Long coat (overcoat).  This item can be worn over your suit or easily can be paired with casual trousers or jeans to heighten the level of your wardrobe when taking that someone out for a date or simply stopping for a hot chocolate or cappuccino.  Our second item is a line of jackets by Martello.  These light weight jackets are definitely a jacket to be had in the spring or in the fall.  They fit fitted and definitely add a punch to any closet.  This is a great replacement to those old bomber jackets that you have sitting in the closet or that ski jacket that isn’t quite right for the occasion.  As the weather warms this jacket can hold its weight by wearing a T shirt or a light weight sweater underneath for your trips to the market or going to see your favourite flick.  The spring has lots to offer in regards to new product.  Remember when you have a classic design there is nothing wrong in taking advantage of the end of another season.

NEW SALE EVENT Our Fearless Leader Brian is turning 40!  In honour of this event we are having a sale.  Clothing, not including summer clothing that we are currently receiving, will be 40% off.  What a great time to pick up new winter running outfits to be ready for next year or any nasty surprises Mother Nature might still throw at us.  PEDESTRIAN will have $40 door crasher specials on shoes.  Sale runs from Thursday, February 25 to Sunday, February 28th.

Haveing just moved here last year its now time to buy a house. I really don't know any one to contact through . I do hope some of you can recommend a agent or company thats going to help me.  I have no contacts in the city that sell. I did try calling a few  and if you can believe it I left my phone number and name at three different offices in town and the agents didn't even return my call. Oh well there busy I guess.

Who would you use and no I am not looking for agent to tell me they are so good. I am looking for the people that used them to tell me. The three i left numbers with were all advertising them self as #1 in some way.
