HALF FOR HAITI
Is on this Saturday, February 6 at 9AM. Meet at BRAINSPORT and head out to walk or run
your choice of a 5K, 10.5K, or 21 K route. This event has been organized on short notice
by your friends at BRAINSPORT, Canarama RUNNING ROOM, and the Saskatoon Road
Runners ( missed mentioning them in last week’s TIMES ). If 9AM doesn’t work, you can
start later and return to BRAINSPORT before we close at 6PM. Later starters will have to
support themselves though as we don’t want any frozen volunteers out on the Trail. As
previously mentioned this is a fund raiser to assist PLAN CANADA and their relief efforts in
Haiti. Our friends from Cafe Sola are going to bring some coffee and cookies which you
can purchase with a donation and they are donating all proceeds to PLAN CANADA as
well. Our goal is to raise $1,000 for every Kilometre of a Half Marathon = $21,000.00.
If you would like to learn more about PLAN CANADA visit www.plancanada.ca .
JUST TRI IT
Sorry guys this is for the ladies only. Interested in trying Triathlon? The YWCA will be
offering another Just Tri It program. This has been a very successful and popular program.
The registration dates this year are as follows:
Early bird registration will start February 1st and run until February 28th. The
cost will be $125.
Regular registration will start March 1st and run until March 25th. The cost
for that will be $135
Here is a note from the Lead Trainer
“We are doing something a little different this year. We are asking that people who have
already been through the program come back this year as volunteers. They can provide
the new participants with hints that they used to stay motivated and it gives them a chance
to give back to the program.” For more information please contact Helecia Giggs at the YWCA -
244-7034 ext 145.
I am sure there are some readers who are graduates of this program so hopefully you can find
time to give back to the program and encourage others to try tri.
TRAIL ETIQUETTE
In response to last week’s comment about sharing the trail when we run in groups we
received this comment from a reader.
“I’ve encountered individual and groups of runners on the MVA trail running with dogs off-
leash. This poses the obvious risk to other runners of being bitten, but it also poses the
more likely risk of injury to a runner who could slip and/or fall or otherwise be injured by
trying to avoid the unpredictable actions of an animal. Given the city bylaw (Animal Control
Bylaw 7860, paragraph 9) that requires dog owners to have their pets on a leash, I would
appreciate if you would put out this reminder to your readers.
Here is the bylaw link should you wish to include it. http://ww8.saskatoon.ca/

KIDSPORT
“Saskatoon KidSport provides financial assistance for youth from low-income families to
help them to participate in sport. Children between the ages of 5-18, WHO ARE LACKING
THE MONEY TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORT, are eligible for assistance”. If you know of
anyone who might benefit by this program, application deadline is March 30 for this year.
You can phone their office at 975-0871 for an application form or email me and I can
forward one by email. Thanks to Murray Gross for bringing this to our attention.
FUTURE TIMES
This TIMES is getting full so I’m saving a couple of items for next week. Watch for news
about a trip to Kenya and your donated shoes and another trip to the Himalaya mountains.

DISNEY WORLD MARATHON
Here is the report I promised from John Dewald about his trip to Florida for the Disney
World Marathon.
After the 2009 Saskatchewan Marathon our group was sitting around drinking beer when
we decided to run the 2010 Disney World Marathon. Pictured from left to right wearing their
Brainsport singlets are: Brent Saunders, Brenda Cuthbert, Warren Frazer, Kath Frazer,
John Dewald, Carmen Dewald, and Nancy Saunders. All 7 completed the Disney World
Marathon on Jan.10/10. Brent and Kath took up the ultimate “Goofy” challenge of running
the 1⁄2 marathon on Jan.9 followed by the full marathon the next day earning the Donald
Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy medals. It was the 1st marathon for Brenda, Warren,
Carmen, and Nancy while John posted a PB with a 3:19:29 performance. The marathon
was followed up by a well deserved 5 day cruise to Turks & Caicos and the Bahamas. The
group will be drinking more beer and planning on their next race adventure, stay tuned.
That’s it for the TIMES this week - as coach Colin says “We’re Running”
